Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” -Rumi
We see couples from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds with various lifestyles; ranging from monogamous to polyamorous and kink varied relationships. Suzanne has completed Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and we use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work.
Our goal as a couple’s therapist is to understand your relationship’s strengths and accurately identify what specific problems you’re struggling with through a thorough assessment process. We together will determine the most beneficial points where intervention will be the most effective and we will guide you in applying techniques, interventions, and specific methods to quickly and efficiently overcome these struggles together.
Ultimately, we strive to help you and your partner understand what you both want together, and give you the tools to get there.
We see clients for a variety of reasons in individual therapy, but most are unsatisfied with their life; they may feel stuck, overwhelmed, confused, or empty. We work first to connect with where you are right now, how your past has impacted your life, heal those injuries, and give you back the control that’s been lacking.
Some things we can help with include:
• Cultivating self-compassion to combat shame, and your inner critic
• Understanding and coping with depression and anxiety
• Advocating for the unique issues LGBTQ individuals face, with a trans* emphasis
• Examining the causes and harmful cycles of addiction and codependency
• Exploring intimacy concerns for individuals and couples
• Supporting clients coping with grief and loss
• Building resilience while navigating life transitions
• Embracing cross-cultural differences and attachment patterns in couples
• Working with childhood trauma
Coaching with me focuses on your challenges, goals and action steps for the future. I find that a blend of coaching and therapy helps clients to dig deep and form a more solid inner-self relationship, and create action plans for how to activate change. We can’t know what we want in the future, without understanding who we are now and what our needs currently are.
I partner with you to fully accept that a fulfilling life is absolutely within your grasp. That in less time than you realize you will be ready to forgive your past, step into your present and embrace what’s next with open arms.
